Aulana was born with Caudal Regression impacting the development of her lower spine. The irony is, without a lower spine, this girl had a backbone greater than any other child you will ever meet. Aulana Hulbert had the endless determination. She was fearless and courageous to the point, of causing worry and concern of on lookers who simply did not know Aulana. As a toddler and child, she would flip her feet in the air and walk on her hands, go up and down stairs and run with the other kids. If you were lucky enough to be surrounded by her for five minutes, you learned very quickly that she did not need your help or your sympathy. She simply wanted you to treat her the same as any other person, and others as you would her.
Please share a story below about Aulana and your memories of her determination, strength and love for life.
We first met Aulana when she was in Mrs Adameks preschool with our daughter Maddie. Every time we crossed paths since then she had a smile and we always said hello to each other. Aulana encouraged me with her determination to do what ever others were doing and not get discouraged.

Aulana as my friend and I pushed her wheelchair through the grass during P.E. She would always yell faster faster. She loved it when I would give her my spaghetti at school during lunch
